Old town of Marín

In the old Marín you can still breathe the seafaring atmosphere of yesteryear. What was a small number of isolated houses on the seashore became an incipient urban centre of fishermen’s houses with the Plaza del Reloj and the Templo Vello (Old Church) as local meeting points. The city gained weight with the Casa das Irmás Fontenla. Nearby is also the Mercado de Abastos (Food Market) or, going down to the port, the Naval Academy, where the future officers of the Spanish Navy have been trained since 1943. The Rosalía de Castro Gardens and the Bandstand enclose the old town.
