"Festas de la Virxe do Porto" (Our Lady of the Port Festival)

The festivities in honour of Marín’s patron saint of arose in the twelfth century with the foundation of our town and the construction of the Templo Vello church by the monks of Oseira, who venerated “Santa María do Priorato.” With the Confiscation of Mendizábal in 1836, the church was expropriated and assigned to Santiago de Compostela, who decided to join it to the parish of San Xulián. It was not until 1930 that Marín recovered his own parish, first with the old Church of Santa Maria do Porto and, starting in 1956, under the Templo Novo church. This celebration brings together thousands of the faithful in the devotion, music and gastronomy of Marín.
