Marín is sea, but it is also mountain, trails and viewpoints with infinite views. If you like to walk and breathe fresh air, this corner of the Rías Baixas makes it easy for you. Here are three routes that show the most natural and tranquil side of Marín.
Route of the Burial Mounds
Few know that in the mountains of Marín there are ancient burial mounds known as “mámoas.” The Route of the “Mámoas” is a circular route of about 7.5 kilometres that passes by surroundings of Lake Castiñeiras, one of the municipality’s most emblematic natural spaces.
Throughout this circular route you will find information panels that explain the value of the “mámoas,” which helps the visitor to connect with the municipality’s history. Access is easy, and the slopes are moderate, making it a good option to do with the family or children, as it combines nature and archaeological heritage.
Route of the Five Viewpoints
If you like views, this is your route. The Route of the Five Viewpoints is one of the most complete in Marín. Over about 10 kilometres, this circular walk connects five panoramic points from which you can see the Pontevedra estuary and part of the coast of Galicia.
The route features the Mogor Viewpoint, the “cruceiro do Vento” (stone cross), Moreira, the Portocelo Viewpoint and the Barrio Viewpoint. On the way, you can also visit the Castro da Subidá (fortified settlement) or the famous Petroglyphs of Mogor, another of Marín’s prehistoric treasures.
The route mixes narrow paths, urban sections and trails by the sea, highlighting the municipality’s diverse landscape.
Route of Mountains and Beaches
For those looking for a longer and more complete experience, the Mountain and Beach Route is a safe bet. This circular route links the municipality’s main nature sites, passing by beaches such as Portocelo, Mogor or Aguete, but also rural areas and trails with spectacular views. It is an ideal route to discover the contrast between the coast and the interior, and perfect if you want to spend a full morning doing it or combine it with a picnic.
In addition, in the area of Lake Castiñeiras, which is part of this route, you will find one of the few approved public barbecue sites in Galicia, which can be used throughout the year. A perfect extra if you feel like finishing off your hike with a good meal outdoors.
Marín is lucky enough to offer you nature very close to the sea and well-signposted routes. So whether you are looking for a relaxing getaway or an active tourism break, Marín is the perfect destination for it. Do you feel like discovering it step by step?
